Ah, yes, it's really here. Montreal's first snow. Please, give me this moment to say I told you so to everyone in the Facebook comments this week that felt the need to tell me "I suck," or that I "don't know how to interpret the weather," or that I was "off-base," when I reported via Environment Canada's forecast, that this was coming.
I have one word for you: Voilà.
The phenomenon of snow brings about mixed reactions for Montrealers and Canadians alike. Some of us love it and embrace the fluffy white stuff as if we were children, experiencing it for the first time.
Other people are... a little more resistant to the change in precipitation that comes along with the drop in temperature and the return of the infamous windchill.
Yes, the reactions are pretty divided here in Montreal, aside from everyone agreeing that it really is amazing how much worse driving in Montreal can get... something that is hard to imagine, considering how terrible driving in Montreal already is without any snow involved.
So how are people handling it?
Well here are some of the most honest and hilarious reactions to the snow that is still falling across Montreal right now, from the people on the streets.
Of course, as I mentioned above, a lot of people, inlcuding myself, were beyond excited to wake up to snow on the ground and falling softly from the sky.
I actually think I have a sixth sense about this kind of thing because, even with the curtains closed, I woke up and instantly said to my boyfriend that I thought it had snowed.

Of course, there's no denying the... hardships, which inevitably come along with snow season. But I like to look at the magic of the season as a pretty legitimate counterbalance.
Other people were definitely not feeling the... festivity. This morning was, instead, a harsh reminder of the at least 4, if not 5, months ahead of us.

My heart goes out to the people above who were shedding tears that likely froze on their little cheeks thanks to the rapidly dropping temperatures.
Seasonal depression is real, y'all, so go get yourself a SAD lamp and put on some Bob Marley or something that will transport you to a beach in your mind. We got this.
If a SAD lamp doesn't turn your mood around, then there's always retail therapy.
You best believe I will do some online retail therapy today because that snow depresses me to no fucking end— Yasmine⁷ (@Yasmine⁷) 1573135944.0
With all the Christmas shopping and sales to be had, plus Black Friday looming just over the horizon, there are plenty of opportunities to spend the last of your disposable income before 2019 is over.

If shopping doesn't work, you can always just shout into la nuit, la bruit nuit. The snow won't respond, but it will hear your anger and perhaps the fire of your rage will help the melting process? We can dream.

I also think we're lucky that this first snow has been more of a flurry than a full-on blizzard, it's giving us the opportunity to ease into winter a little bit.

So I'm not mad that it probably won't stick around on the ground for long - especially because it's supposed to keep snowing in Montreal until next Tuesday.
But, without question, the worst thing about snow in Montreal is what it does to the roads, the drivers, the parking situation... essentially anything related to vehicular movement is completely wrecked by snow.

As all of these tweets attest, getting around this morning in Montreal, even with the small amount of snow that is falling, was more difficult that it should've been.

You'd think people in Montreal would be used to this kind of thing by now, but I think that part of living with the trauma of winter in Montreal is compartmentalizing. We survive because we forget.
Which is also why we need festive cheer to get us through - we need something to hold onto when the darkness starts to creep in... at 4:30 in the afternoon.

So just put on some Christmas music and a comfy cozy sweater and try to rock yourself into some kind of human hibernation.
Because the reality is, we've got a long way to go... a very long way.
