Montreal's Metro Is Having A Really Rough Morning As Both Green & Orange Line Shut Down

Anyone taking the Montreal metro this morning is going to feel a serious slowdown as both of the STM's green line and the orange line are suffering from shutdowns as thousands of commuters are trying to get to work. What started as just slowdowns on the orange line became full-blown shutdowns across the busy downtown segments of both lines. The green line was stopped first between Lionel-Groulx and Honoré-Beaugrand as there was an unauthorized person on the tracks.

Then, the Orange line halted service between Lionel-Groulx and Henri-Bourassa due to electrical equipment failure just moments after the green line was stopped.

Service resumed on both lines by 9:30.

There are likely to be some very large crowds building up at stations along both lines, with Lionel-Groulx likely facing the brunt of the backup.

It is unclear if the two incidents are related in some way.

The STM first tweeted the following, indicating that service was down between Lionel-Groulx and Honoré-Beaugrand due to an unauthorized person on the metro tracks.

While service was expected to resume at 9:05 a.m., that was pushed back to 9:20 a.m. not long after.

As of 9:23, service is gradually resuming on the green line.

Then, shortly after that, the Orange line was shut down due to an electrical equipment failure.

But service resumed on that line by the projected 9:30 deadline.

We've received reports of crowding at several stations. Commuters should expect delays as service resumes.

Stay tuned for updates.
