As winter reaches its peak, there's a lot going on in the city, but it's not every day that you have the opportunity to hang out with an alpaca in Old Montreal. This February and March, the Pointe-à-Callière Museum is offering free outdoor activities and indoor workshops celebrating the culture of the Incas and Peru. For the event, a group of alpacas is coming to the public Place Royal adjacent to the museum.
The public outdoor program will "come alive with the colours and rhythms of Peru," according to a press release.
Workshops on alpaca wool, "from shearing to spinning," will accompany the animals.
Visitors will be able to get up close and personal and take pictures with the woolly creatures, a Pointe-à-Callière spokesperson tells MTL Blog.
And when you get tired of standing and looking at alpacas, you can sit and look at alpacas from the comfort of Adirondack chairs behind the warmth of a small fire.
The alpacas come from La vie en alpaga, a family farm in Beloeil, Quebec with a mission, according to its Facebook page, to educate visitors on the "animal and its fibre, whose qualities deserve to be known."
If you're worried about the alpacas' ability to handle the cold, the farm's Facebook page makes it clear that they are unbothered by the snow.
At Pointe-à-Callière, event guests will also have the opportunity to explore the indoor program with the purchase of a ticket.
Inside, it will be jam-packed with cool activities such as weaving and jewelry-making, as well as a cinema and reading corner.
The cold sometimes makes it hard for us to want to leave our house. But this fun-filled activity is worth bundling up for. At the end of the day, there is no reason to be sad about winter when you have a crew of alpacas in your city!
The event will take place between February 29 and March 7, 2020.
