Montreal's STM Blue Line Will Now Be Shut Down Until 4:30 PM – Over Three Hours In Total
Due to a rare power failure, the entire Montreal Blue STM line (from Snowdon to Saint-Michel stations) has shut down.
The STM tweeted the news around 12:50 PM, predicting that the line would again be operational around 1:06 PM.

Unfortunatetly, the public transit agency pushed back the reopening first to 3:00 PM and now to 4:30 PM. By the time the line reopens, it will have been shut down for over three hours.

A shutdown this long is extremely rare and sure to lead to crowding when the line is again running.
The STM has clarified that the shutdown is actually due to a Hydro Quebec failure. We reported today that, due to the extreme cold, Hydro Quebec has been unable to meet consumer demand, leading to power failures in part of the province. It is unclear whether the Blue line failure is linked to cold temperatures.

In the meantime, a bus shuttle is running along the Blue line route.

UPDATE: as of 4:35 PM, normal service has resumed on the Blue line.
