Quebec restaurants once again made a strong showing in Big 7 Travel's annual ranking of the "50 Best Burgers in Canada." In fact, of the top 10 burgers in Canada on the list, four are from Quebec institutions, more than any other province. The number two spot went to Montreal's own Uniburger, whose juicy meat, special sauce, and potato rolls have made it a local favourite.
Uniburger took the number one spot last year but lost out in the 2020 list to Windsor, Ontario's Mamo Burger Bar.
"Uniburger is killin’ the burger game, and we’re not the only ones who think so," writes Big 7. "They’re consistently ranked as having the best burger in Montreal and one of the absolute best in the entire country."
"What’s so special about these meaty sandwiches? Their made-to-order burgers use only 100% AAA Canadian beef. And, they keep things simple in terms of toppings. With a patty this good, it doesn’t need anything added to it."
The other Quebec burgers in the top 10 come from OMG Resto in Sherbrooke (number 3), Le Chic Shack in Quebec City (number 5), and Burger Royal in Montreal (number 8), down from number seven in the 2019 list.
Big 7 commends Burger Royal for "serving burgers packed full of creativity and flavour in equal measure."
"Their beef is mountain-raised, grass-fed beef from Mont Laurie. Get whatever they’re serving as the burger of the month and enjoy the fantastic flurry of flavours."
The 2020 ranking took shape from Big 7 Travel reader and social media audience suggestions, the article makes clear.
Dilallo Burger (49), HELM Microbrasserie (39), Restaurant Mile-Ex (34), QDC Burger (18), and Notre Boeuf de Grâce (13) round out the Montreal restaurants on the list.
The number two ranking is just the latest development in an exciting year for Uniburger, which took part in the local "gourmet food hall trend" this year with a new location in the stylish Le Cathcart in Place Ville-Marie.
The restaurant also expanded its offerings last spring with a burger and wine bar in Old Montreal.
MTL Blog reached out to Uniburger to inquire as to just what its team believes makes the burger so popular and we're waiting to hear back.
