Montreal dumpling restaurants hold a special place in my heart because I absolutely love everything about those delicious little dough balls. As you all probably know, Chinatown and areas around Montreal are blessed with incredible dumpling restaurants.
The prospects of finding decent dumplings are diminished if you don't live in the city's core. You're all in luck though! An all-new dumpling spot just opened up in the West Island and to be honest, it's the place to be.
Opened a few weeks ago in a low-key strip mall along Boulevard Saint-Jean in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Shanghai 1930 is the latest addition to the island's excellent repertoire of dumpling spots.
Sure, it's a little off the beaten path, but taking a trip to Shanghai 1930 is totally worth it because it has an authentic charm and handmade, homestyle food that'll quickly win your heart!
Located at 4291 Boul. Saint-Jean, Shanghai 1930 is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it kind of spot, sandwiched between a barbershop and a Dagwoods restaurant. Don't let the drab facade and no advertising deter you because once you enter Shanghai 1930, you'll be transported.
The restaurant is closed on Monday but is open from 11:30 AM to 9 PM every other day of the week. Their menu offers what you'd expect from a well-stocked Chinese restaurant, with various noodle and rice dishes. The real draw, however, is their incredible selection of dumplings.
Everything is handmade with the utmost love and care, including the noodles! Their dumpling options include xiao long bao (soup dumplings), fried, and steamed options.
Dumplings have the classic fillings such as pork, beef, chicken, and lamb. Shanghai 1930 also has plenty of vegetarian options! Steamed and soup dumplings come in sets of 10 while fried ones come in sets of 12.
The restaurant also makes delicious bubble and green tea ice cream. When you inevitably visit Shanghai 1930, make sure to try as much as possible!
