A 20 Year Old Man Was Shot & Killed In Public Last Night In Montreal, Suspect Still On The Loose

A fight broke out last night near the Olympic Stadium.

  • The SPVM is reporting that a fight between two individuals ended with a 20-year-old man being shot in the chest.
  • Police are interviewing witnesses but a suspect has not yet been identified.

Last night in the Hochelaga-Maisounneuve borough police responded to several 911 calls that indicated that they had heard gunshots. 

When police arrived on the scene, they found a 20-year old man who had been shot and killed. According to the police, this is 11th homicide this year in Montreal.

According to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) spokesperson Manuel Couture, at around 1:00 a.m. on Friday morning, a fight broke out between several individuals. 

Said individuals were in Théodore Park at the corner of Théodore and Hochelaga streets, near the Olympic Stadium.

According to Couture, the fight, which began for unknown reasons, escalated when a suspect pulled out a gun and shot a 20-year-old man at least once in the chest.

Spokesperson Manuel Couture said that, despite a quick response from police, paramedics declared the man dead on the scene.

The major crimes unit has been called in to investigate the murder. At this time, the suspect has not been apprehended. The CBC reports that a K9 unit has been brought in to look for clues.

No arrests have been made at this time. Police are still interviewing witnesses.

For now, the park and its surrounding areas are blocked to all traffic while the major crimes unit conducts its investigation and collects evidence.

The summer has been particularly deadly for the city. On the night of July 29, three people were stabbed in unrelated incidents. One young man died.

A few days later, a teenage boy was stabbed in Montréal-Nord, though, luckily, he is expected to recover from his injuries.
