Montreal's Floating Outdoor Movie Theatre Is Coming Back To Parc Jean-Drapeau
  • Yet again this summer, Parc Jean-Drapeau's Aquatic Complex will be turning into a floating movie theatre on certain evenings.
  • Floating away in water tube beats sitting in movie seat any day — right?
  • Get all the details below!

Summers in Montreal are always filled with fun and adventurous activities for you and your friends to experience with each other. During these warm months, you have several options around the city for getting unique cinematic experiences. On one hand, you can see movies under the stars near the Lachine Canal, while on the other, you can watch film projections at Parc Jean-Drapeau while floating in a water tube.

Did you catch my hint? The Aquatic Complex at Parc Jean-Drapeau will be hosting floating movies again this summer. Although an official schedule has not yet been released, a spokesperson for Parc Jean-Drapeau confirmed to MTL Blog that the floating cinema will be back again this year for a few evenings during summer.

Access to the screenings is free, you just need to pay the entry fee of the Aquatic Complex.

As stated on the website, "the park invites you to film evenings like no other at the Aquatic Complex. On three occasions during the summer season, the dive pool will welcome bathers comfortably seated in their tubes to attend a movie screening."

If you've got your own tube, you're free to bring it. But for those of us who don't own a tube (and I am thinking that most of us), there will be tubes available onsite.

The participants are also invited to dress on the theme with the movie that will be playing, which is such a fun idea if you ask me.

Last year the floating cinema showed Jurassic Park and 1975 classic Jaws, in French with English subtitles.*

As if the film was not scary enough, imagine watching it while sitting on a tube, in the water, surrounded by strangers... Some would call this a dream, others a nightmare

This unique and relaxing movie watching experience is an event that you won't soon forget.

You can enjoy this floating theatre with friends or take that special someone on a date they will remember forever. Just be sure that they know how to swim!
