Powerful Photo Of Greta Thunberg Leading Montreal Strike Shows Just How Far She Has Come

Powerful Photo Of Greta Thunberg Leading Montreal Strike Shows How Far She Has Come

We are lucky enough to have climate activist Greta Thunberg leading the Montreal climate strike along with the now estimated 400,000 other protesters. Seeing the support that Montreal, its schools, and its leaders are giving to the climate march has brought the city together and is inspiring to many.

But seeing how far 16-year-old Thunberg has come in only the last year is even more awe-inspiring. Before today's march, she met with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and gave an unprepared speech in front of hundreds of thousands of people. She has spoken at the United Nations Climate Summit, has been featured on Time magazine, she has upset and intimidated leaders around the world, including the President of the United States.

This is all from one girl who only a year ago sat alone on a sidewalk in Sweden with only a sign "Skolstrejk för klimatet" (school strike for the climate) beside her.

A photo tweet of today's Montreal march, posted by Thunberg herself, captures the astounding distance she has travelled and the inspiration she brings on a global scale.

The photo already has over five thousand likes, nearly one thousand retweets, and comments that are pouring in too quickly to count.

The comments are mostly an outpouring of support and gratitude. Though one confused soul wrote, "100% not Montreal lmao. They speak English there. But okay...."

But most of the messages were positive: "The world is proud of you, Greta..Please never give up. Let those corrupt politicians know, in a few short years, your generation will be voting to send them all to the sin bin of History! Make them afraid. Very afraid!" (edited for clarity)

Seeing the now famous pic below of Greta, only 12 months ago, is absolutely astounding. In May 218 she won an essay contest on climate change. After trying to persuade, with no luck, others at her school to take part in a strike, she decided to strike on her own.

But her passion, disregard for protocol and blunt message has now inspired climate marches worldwide.

The turnout for Montreal's march is truly a testament to her leadership.

Thunberg is now a beacon of hope and change worldwide.  How's that for one small voice?
