The government has released its list of Quebec essential services that will remain open during the COVID-19 outbreak. On Monday, Premier François Legault announced that all businesses and industries deemed "non-essential" will be closed until April 13 in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus, which now counts 628 confirmed cases in the province. Legault said that "Quebec will be on pause for three weeks."
The latest measures come at a "critical time" for the Quebec government. Legault mentioned that there has been evidence of community spread of the novel coronavirus.
Social distancing and practicing proper hygiene measures are crucial to stop the spread of COVID-19 and now more than ever, he says, public authorities will be ramping up measures to keep people safe.
For instance, the SPVM is now prepared to fine people $1,000 if they violate the government's ban on almost all public gatherings.
It's not all bad news, however.
The City of Montreal has modified its parking regulations to make life a little more bearable for everyone. Parking schedules on street signs will take effect on May 1, 2020 instead of the usual April 1.
