Quebec Construction Season Is About To Restart So Get Ready

At least one familiar sight is set to return next week. The road construction season in Quebec is officially back on May 11. The industry has been given the go-ahead to resume operations. "As of May 11, the entire construction industry will be able to resume its activities," the Ministry of Transport wrote in a statement. Before the health crisis began, 1,300 roadworks were planned throughout the year.

All road projects in the province were put on hold when the pandemic began.

"The resumption of construction sites is an engine of economic development for all of Quebec," said the Ministry.

On every project, strict health measures will be enforced to ensure the safety of all workers.

Though many drivers have gotten used to roads free of construction and traffic over the past couple of months, the Ministry reminds all Quebecers that they must be extra careful in the next few weeks as construction resumes on the road network.

"I wish a good return to all our workers on construction sites across Quebec. I am convinced that motorists will exercise caution and respect the instructions related to construction sites," said François Bonnardel, Minister of Transport.

The CNESST outlined its guidelines for workers and construction companies to follow as they gradually resume work.

Construction workers will be required to validate their health at the beginning of each workday. While working, all workers must maintain a two-meter distance whenever possible.

Workers won't be required to wear personal protective equipment unless they're in situations where they can't keep a two-meter distance.

A mask and goggles or a visor will be mandatory in these instances.

In the Montreal area, the road construction projects set to resume on May 11 are the:

  • reconstruction of the chemin du Ruisseau Nord bridge on Autoroute 20 in Saint-Mathieu-de-Beloeil;

  • paving and preferential measures for buses on Autoroute 30 in Longueuil, Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, and Boucherville;

  • repairs to the Montée Cadieux overpass on Autoroute 40 in Vaudreuil-Dorion;

  • rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Autoroutes 13 and 40 interchanges;

  • rehabilitation of the Louis-Bisson Bridge on Autoroute 13 between Montreal and Laval; and

  • paving and repair of the roadway between Provencher Boulevard and Highway 520 on Autoroute 40.

Other sites will become active over the course of the season, according to a statement from the Ministry.
