One Montreal Borough Is Adding 65 km Of Bike Paths This Year
One Montreal borough is set to transform its streetscape this year. Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie plans to welcome another 65 kilometres of bike paths as part of its Vision Vélo. On Facebook, the borough shared renderings of new protected bike lanes on rues de Bellechasse and Saint-Zotique Est. Both are projected to be ready in mid-October 2020.
The idea behind Vision Vélo is to "allow better coexistence between all road users" according to the City of Montreal. The Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie borough has been slowly redeveloping its streets to accommodate more cyclists since 2019.
Residents and cyclists should know that "rue de Bellechasse will be turned one way westbound between rue Chatelain and rue Saint-Denis and rue Saint-Zotique Est will be turned eastbound between boulevard Saint-Laurent and avenue Lorimier."
"The streets of de Bellechasse and Saint-Zotique will be developed to ensure your safety regardless of the active means of transport that you will use," the city ensures.
As a whole, the Vision Vélo project aims to "change the face of the Rosepatrien cycling network" and is factoring in all aspects of road safety to ensure a smooth transition for all users.
Four different types of cyclable paths will be deployed, according to the project website, including protected and reserved lanes, as well as shared paths for cyclists and pedestrians.
The project will also connect Rosemont's bike path network to the Reseau Express Vélo (REV), creating speedy north-south and east-west links.

Vision Vélo will feature:
65 kilometres of bike paths,
more rest stops in the area,
new and improved signage, and
"protective measures for cyclists."
The borough also hopes to improve its snow clearing efforts on its bike paths in 2020-2021, with a goal to clean 38 kilometres of lanes.
