As part of the much anticipated Montreal en Lumière, there are a slew of gastronomic tastings that will take place throughout the city in February. For cider lovers, one of the best events is the SAQ's Mondial des Cidres, a three-day show put on at the Complexe Desjardins that will showcase some of the best Quebec artisans in the cidery business.
From February 28 to March 1, the downtown complex will become home to a cider tasting gala in all of its sparkling, sweet, dry, ice, sparkling, and flavoured varieties.
But as no stomach should soldier on alone while drinking, there will also be food samples from 20 local cheese artisans from L'espace Fromager Amour et Tradition.
Not to be outdone in the cheese category Épicerie Urbaine Masson has the answer with its grilled cheese bar paired with ciders.
There will also be a food market where you can taste, and purchase bread, candy and agrifood products that may have stolen your tastebuds.
If you buy a presale pass now, it's only $20 ($22 later on or at the door) for access to all the activities on one of the day's events, 10 tasting coupons (food/beverage), and one tasting INAO glass.
To really get a taste of the event, passes for the Chic, Le Cidre! evening are $57 and include even more vouchers, champagne, tapas, and a reserved nighttime VIP space. There are only spots available for 200 people, so if you're interested book soon.
After 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 29 the festival takes on a bit of a different high-energy vibe as tickets are reduced to $7 for Nuit Blanche. The party goes until midnight and Dj Abeille will be spinning while the night owls can taste not only ciders but cocktails and even more food samples.
This is the 13th year the Mondial de Cidre has taken place, and it's no wonder it fills up fast. So, plan accordingly.
