"Schitt's Creek" Star Emily Hampshire Is Filming A New Movie In Montreal Right Now

In the last year alone, we've seen the likes of Kevin Hart, Neil Patrick Harris, Samuel L. Jackson, Kid Cudi and Gary Oldman all in and around Montreal for various film shoots.

The films being shot in our fair city include Dreamland, which also stars Armie Hammer and is out next year; Spinning Gold, which had Montreal decked out like 1950's Brooklyn and is still filming; and Fatherhood, Kevin Hart's first foray into ~serious acting~ which we are very excited for when it is released in 2020.

Now we get to add Home to the list of exciting upcoming films that have used Montreal as their backdrop, in addition to boasting a talented Montreal-based team at the same time.

Schitt's Creek alum Emily Hampshire was featured in Variety today with the announcement of her return to the big screen.

For the last four years, Hampshire was delighting audiences worldwide with her best Canadian Daria as Stevie Budd on the CBC Original show created by Dan and Eugene Levy.

Hampshire grew up in Montreal attending the now-closed Queen of Angels Academy and has been pretty prolific in the Canadian film and TV scene ever since.

You may recognize her from shows like Rookie Blue or Republic of Doyle and she even voiced Alyson in the cartoon show Braceface.

Home is going to be a step in a much spookier direction, though. Hampshire will play the lead, Meredith, in a house that is 100% haunted.

The summary explains: "after the death of their newborn Alex, Meredith and her husband, Jared, separate. Alone in her house, she's convinced that Alex is still alive, but a nightmarish entity is determined to keep them apart."

The photo above was shared by the writer/producer, Philip Kalin-Hajdu down by the Lachine Canal. Variety also confirms that filming began yesterday, so keep your eyes peeled for the crew.

Montreal-based Benoit Beaulieu is also producing and Adam O’Brien of Delirium Pictures will be directing.

It is going to be very fun to see Hampshire jump so far from her comedy role and I, for one, am ready for it.

There's no question she's a talented actress so this film is set to be amazing, I just hope it's not so scary I'm too afraid to go see it...

No word, yet, on when we can expect to enjoy this baby on the big screen, but if we're lucky it won't be much longer than next year.
