School Bus Carrying Dozens Of Children Bursts Into Flames After Crash North Of Montreal (Video)

This morning, two school buses transporting day campers to Oka Beach caught fire on Autoroute 640 north of Montreal after a collision. 

According to TVA Nouvellesa total of 69 people have been rushed to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries. The buses were carrying children aged 5 to 12. The good news is that no one has suffered a major injury.

Officers on the scene have shut down westward traffic on Autoroute 640 to clean up and investigate what went wrong. According to the report, the two buses collided after a slowdown in traffic and one of the bus engines ignited, spreading to two other cars on the highway. The buses and both cars are completely destroyed. 

One MTLBlog reader, @waynecapagas sent us a stunning video from the scene which shows billowing smoke and a bus completely engulfed in flames. 

Amazingly, no one was seriously injured despite how bad this accident looks.

The first bus collided with the back of a vehicle after a sudden stop on the highway. The second bus then crashed into the back of the first. The engine of the second bus quickly started billowing smoke and caught fire as children were trying to escape.

Officers are on the scene live to clean up and divert traffic. For those travelling along Autoroute 640, expect heavy traffic all day long. SQ officers have shut down to Autoroute going West. 

Translation: The City of Brossard confirms that at 10 AM this morning, an accident between two school buses that were transporting children aged 5 to 12 crashed on Autoroute 640 Ouest. No child has been injured. Parents will be contacted as soon as possible. 

Two adults also suffered minor injuries. The total number of injured is 69 and they're all being treated at a regional hospital. The hospital had a code orange alert due to the sudden influx of patients. 

Translation: Two school buses with transporting children caught fire Tuesday morning on Autoroute 640 in Saint-Eustache.

Thankfully, there have been no other reported injuries.
