If you're living in Quebec these days, chances are you know that our hometown hero and McGill graduate, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, is headed to Super Bowl LIV this Sunday, February 2, 2020 to face off against the San Fransisco 49ers in Miami, Florida. Tous les yeux have been on Duvernay-Tardif these past couple weeks as fans from Quebec and all of Canada heralded the lineman's achievements, which include graduating from medical school while actively playing in the NFL.
Yes, in addition to the 76 on his jersey, Duvernay-Tardif also has an M.D. at the end of his name and was the first active NFL player to achieve such a noble accomplishment.
So it's no surprise that Laurent's parents are gushing with pride.
We spoke briefly with Laurent's mother, before she got on her way down to Miami, and her first statement was to acknowledge the outpouring of support from people in Quebec.
"All this recognition is extremely touching," she said.
So, to give back to the community in their own special way, Laurent's parents created his favourite pizza to serve in his honour.
Reservations are now full at Le pain dans les voiles on rue De Castelnau, but I'm sure you'll be able to order the Super Bowl special in the weeks to come, whether the Chiefs come out on top or not.
The square pizza is made with bacon, red onions, Swiss cheese, crème fraîchem and chives and is touted as "Laurent's favourite salty square!"
Though, don't expect to have Papa Tardif serving up the pizza this weekend. Laurent's mother informed MTL Blog that, "the whole family will be in Miami to live this unique moment together."

She also couldn't help but gush with pride over her son.
"What more can I say that I am extremely proud of Laurent's accomplishment," she said, expressing a sentiment that most of Quebec if not all of Canada is feeling right now.
It's clear that Laurent is a special individual with a drive that few can match. Which is why it's no surprise that the province and country are rallying around him and his team. He deserves every single win he has seen up to now.
While you might not be able to watch the game at Le pain dans les voiles (unless you've already got reservations), there are still plenty of bars around the city that will be alive with excitement this Sunday for Super Bowl LIV.
The Kansas City Chiefs will take on the San Fransisco 49ers in Miami starting at 6:30 p.m. EST.
Our boy is the one wearing #76.
