Swimply Lets Montrealers Rent Private Swimming Pools

If Quebec's extreme heatwave has you desperate to take a dip in a cool, refreshing pool, but you don't have one, you might think you're SOL (i.e. shit out of luck). But there's hope for you yet. Swimply, an app that recently launched in Montreal, lets you and your friends rent people's pools by the hour, Airbnb style.

"Swimply allows non-pool owners affordable access to an otherwise inaccessible luxury while allowing pool owners to earn an effortless, substantial income from their underutilized pools," explained Swimply on its website.

The online marketplace for pool sharing already has over 100 private pools available for rent in the Montreal area and over 20,000 pools listed across the U.S., Canada and Australia.

Prices generally range from $25 USD an hour, like this welcoming courtyard pool near Sauvé station, to $70 USD an hour, like this heated pool in a luxury villa in Côte Saint-Luc. But, according to a Swimply spokesperson, the average price is $45 USD an hour.

Similar to Airbnb, each pool allows a certain number of guests — some even allow for up to 20 people! And you can filter your search by details, such as whether the pool's heated, whether there's a restroom, whether it's pet friendly and whether there's a diving board, hot tub or grill.

There are also reviews so you can get a better sense of how the pool is maintained, how smooth the process is and whether you can trust your host.

Have a pool to rent out? Swimply told us pool owners can earn about $5,000 USD to $10,000 USD per month on average.

If you're ready to ditch the AC and work on that tan, here are seven private pools to get you started for less than $60 CAD per hour.
