After having read Southern Quebec's spring weather predictions, my mind instantly shifted to wondering when our city's terrasse season will begin. Unfortunately for the owners of terrasses in Montreal, it can be difficult to plan official opening dates since, as we all know, the city's weather is oh so unpredictable. But, this fact didn't stop me from seeing what these iconic hangout spots are planning for the upcoming season.
So, I went on the hunt to find out just when we're going to be blessed with the openings of our favourite terrasses around the city. Some spots have confirmed opening dates, others have expected ones, and some have not set a specific date yet as they are waiting for weather forecasts to become more certain.
Do you daydream about drinking sangria on a terrasse? Me too. I know we're all patiently waiting for that moment to come when we sip our warm days away.
You guys may be thinking, okay but what about spring? If you're a real Montrealer, you know spring lasts about 3.7 days — so I have every right to be searching for summer as we speak.
As for the list, I've put the terrasses in order of opening date, so it has an exciting chronology for ya.
Café Santropol's Garden Terrasse
Opening date: it's already open!
The terrasse in the back of Café Santropol has to be one of the most quaint places in the city. Whether you're going just for a coffee or an entire meal, you're sure to leave one satisfied customer.
This well-decorated space offers blankets to curl up in and heaters around the majority of the tables. And, it's the first terrasse in the city to be open — go take advantage!
Jardin Nelson
Opening date: Wednesday, April 22, 2020
During the summer, you can always find people lining up to get into Jardin Nelson. Since its located in the heart of the Old Port, it's an ideal spot to spend your days.
The music? Phenomenal. The sangria? Delicious. The terrasse? Colourful. What more could you really ask for?
Plus, once it opens on April 22, it's prepared for all types of weather. And the ambiance will have you coming back time and time again.
Terrasse William Gray
Expected opening date: Thursday, April 9, 2020
If you've ever wanted a photo with La Grande Roue de Montréal in the background, Terrasse William Gray is your spot.
And if weather permits, it'll be open for business in approximately six short weeks! Here's to hoping for warmer weather A.S.A.P.
Terrasse Nelligan
Expected opening date: Wednesday, April 15, 2020
There are very few spots that beat Terrasse Nelligan's panoramic views of the city.
"Si Dame Nature le veut bien" (if Mother Nature permits), we'll be able to get these views as of April 15, which is what the Food & Beverage Director told MTL Blog in an email.
Perché
Expected opening date: Thursday, April 16, 2020
This one may look familiar, and that's because it's only four floors down for Terrasse William Gray. It, too, is a part of Hotel William Gray, so you're getting the same views — just a little closer to the ground.
But, both are worth checking out since their food and drinks menus differ! Might as well try them all, right?
Terrasses Bonsecours
Opening date: Thursday, May 14, 2020
Terrasses Bonsecours has it all, from boozy brunches to late night outdoor clubbing.
The variety of sangria pitchers they offer makes it the perfect spot to go with you and your gang. And luckily for us, it'll only be a little over two and a half months before we get to bring back the Bonsecours evenings!
MTL Blog has been told that other terrasses, such as Terrasse Place d’Armes, Terrasse sur l’Auberge, and Terrasse du Vieux-Port Steakhouse are looking at opening dates during the month of May.
We have also reached out to Pub Le Sainte-Élisabeth and Terrasse St-Ambroise to find out when their terrasses will be opening — both are uncertain about official dates and say it will depend on the weather.
This article will continuously be updated as new spots release their opening dates.
Until then, keep hoping for warm weather to hit our city as quickly as possible!
