At least one population is happy about social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic: our pets. Working from home means more time with our fur friends, who are blissfully unaware of any public panic. We put a call out for Montrealers to share photos of their animal companions from their home offices and they did not disappoint.
The good news is that "at this time, there is no evidence that companion animals, including pets, can spread COVID-19 or that they might be a source of infection," according to the American Center for Disease Control (CDC).
The agency does, however, recommend you take precautions to protect your animal if you do become ill.
"If you are sick with COVID-19 (either suspected or confirmed), you should restrict contact with pets and other animals, just like you would around other people."
"When possible," sick individuals should "have another member of your household care for your animals while you are sick" and, unfortunately, "avoid contact with your pet including, petting, snuggling, being kissed or licked, and sharing food."
"This can help ensure both you and your animals stay healthy."
More information on COVID-19 and its risk to pets, refer to the CDC website.
Here are just some of the pets accompanying Montrealers during their period of working from home.
