The COVID-19 Pandemic Means We Get To Spend Some More Time With Our Pets (Photos & Videos)
  • As Montrealers self-isolate at home, their pets are there to see them through the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • We put a call out for pet photos and were not disappointed.

At least one population is happy about social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic: our pets. Working from home means more time with our fur friends, who are blissfully unaware of any public panic. We put a call out for Montrealers to share photos of their animal companions from their home offices and they did not disappoint.

The good news is that "at this time, there is no evidence that companion animals, including pets, can spread COVID-19 or that they might be a source of infection," according to the American Center for Disease Control (CDC).

The agency does, however, recommend you take precautions to protect your animal if you do become ill.

"If you are sick with COVID-19 (either suspected or confirmed), you should restrict contact with pets and other animals, just like you would around other people."

"When possible," sick individuals should "have another member of your household care for your animals while you are sick" and, unfortunately, "avoid contact with your pet including, petting, snuggling, being kissed or licked, and sharing food."

"This can help ensure both you and your animals stay healthy."

More information on COVID-19 and its risk to pets, refer to the CDC website.

Here are just some of the pets accompanying Montrealers during their period of working from home.

Evidence suggests that pets can be a great tool to relax and maintain mental health.

Though they might not always be happy that their owners are around more often.

Some animals are already pretty good at quarantine. Exhibit A:

Cuteness cures all.

Pets make for great, silent drinking buddies.

Though cats can sometimes look judgmental.

But pets can serve as a reminder to look up from the screen every once in a while.

It's always nice to have a pretty face next to you.

These toe beans somehow make the situation seem slightly less dire.

Plus, pets basically force you to play around and do some exercise when you're otherwise stuck on the couch.

These faces are a welcome distraction.

And yes, they're a great test for concentration.

Also excellent nap partners.

Indeed, the Montreal SPCA tells MTL Blog that its adoption services are still up and running.
