You Can Ice Skate Under A Giant Fireworks Show In The Old Port Next Month

It's going to be spectacular!
You Can Ice Skate Under A Giant Fireworks Show In The Old Port Next Month
  • The Old Port is hosting a Fire On Ice event this winter where you can watch firework shows while skating on the basin.
  • If you're looking for a reason to get out in the cold this season, here's your answer!
  • Find out when it begins below!

The Old Port of Montreal does its absolute best to create a winter that usually only exists in dreams and Netflix Christmas movies. From outdoor markets to pop-up bars, the area transforms into a happy, little Santa borough that helps takes the edge off the cold. And the Fire On Ice held at the Natrel skating rink is a big part of that. Returning to Montreal December 14 and running until January 4, the outdoor skating rink hosts a pyrotechnics show every Saturday evening that anyone can take part in.

For four nights you can skate to music under a sky lit up with one of the biggest fireworks spectacles of its kind. If you ask me, it's the perfect date night activity.

There is a fee for the skating rink but if you buy from now until December 6, you can take advantage of the whole season pre-sale prices for only $24. They also have family packages if you want to take your whole brood out for a day on the ice.

But if you just want to catch the fireworks and have no interest in skating, the show will still be visible if you happen to be walking by. Just make sure you're all bundled up.

There is a DJ booth where artists of all different genres play. If you're cold and need a little warming up, you can head over to Bistro Bonsecours to grab a warm drink.

The "pyro-musical" fireworks show is stunning against the backdrop of the Old Port. The show is usually slated to start at 8 p.m. and runs about 15 minutes.

The only downside is that the rink can get pretty busy and while you can rent skates ($10) and helmets ($5), the rental line-ups can be rather tiresome. So, if you happen to have your own skates, you can save a lot of time and frustration by bringing them.

This annual event is a Montreal favourite and makes for the perfect winter evening.
