This time of uncertainty has led to new creative activities coming up all over the place. Museums have started offering virtual tours, Netflix has released new shows and movies, some local Montreal DJs have begun doing live performances on social media — the list is endless. Montreal's Museum of Fine Arts has been giving virtual tours of their collections, providing art therapy on Friday evenings, and now, they have started recreating works of art using household items. And they're challenging you to do it also!
Basically, anyone can choose their favourite work of art in the MMFA, recreate it with either themselves or whatever items they have in their home, and then post a photo of it next to a photo of the real work of art.
This creative idea originally started by @tussenkunstenquarantaine, and now the MMFA has hopped on board to bring this trend to Montrealers.
The people behind MMFA's Instagram account say they "believe very strongly in the creative potential of our ... community." And because of such a belief, they're asking everyone to participate in this fun challenge — stating that they "can’t wait to see what you come up with!"
If you decide to get creative and try this challenge out for yourself, make sure to mention @mbamtl when posting the result.
You can take a look at some of the amazingly creative and funny reproductions that have been done by other individuals below.
Not only is this a great way of killing some time, but it is also another way of keeping our community together during this period of isolation.
As you can see from the photos, people from all around the globe have been showing off their creativity through the eyes of social media.
And, the results are nothing short of amazing.
If you're looking for something fun to do with your roommates or even by yourself, this is a unique way of expressing your personality while bringing light into the community during this difficult time.
So, fellow Montreal locals, while you're home looking for something to do, why not take part in this exceptionally fun challenge?
You won't regret it when you see the fantastic (and potentially hilarious) results.
Just make sure you tag the museum so that everyone can fawn over your real-life versions of our favourite works of art.
Can't wait to see everyone's recreations!
