The Ogilvy Holiday Window Is Now On Display & Bringing Magic To The Streets Of Montreal
  • In 2018, the annual Oglivy's Christmas window display was officially moved to the McCord Museum, and this year's version is ready to be seen! on Rue Sherbooke!
  • It's open until January 5, 2020, so you have no excuse not to go take a peek at it.
  • See photos of this year's holiday window below!

Remember those cold winter days as a kid, when you would get super excited as your parents brought you downtown to check out the Christmas display at Ogilvy’s? Well, you can continue to relive those cherished moments at the McCord Museum’s holiday window.

In 1947, Montreal locals became spellbound by the mechanical Christmas display in the window of the high-end department store Ogilvys. And since then, children and adults would flock to the display, hot chocolate in hand, to marvel at the festive art before them.

The Christmas window at Ogilvy's is one of those loved Montreal winter memories that so many of us locals have. I can picture myself as a child, bundled up in the cold and completely mesmerized by what I saw in front of me. Every year, I would look forward to seeing the window and the “spoon” playing musician that somehow came along with the display.

Throughout the world's biggest cities, holiday displays are a popular thing, like the Macy’s display in New York City and the Galeries Lafayette window in Paris. and this window display is no different.

This outdoor display is titled The Mill In The Forest and it allows visitors to carry on this winter tradition to the next generation.

Located on Sherbrooke Street, the festivity of the display will allow you to reminisce on what your childhood holidays were like in this wonderful city.

The mechanical window displays are somewhat embedded in our history, and I look forward to continuing the tradition with all of those who are new to Montreal.

To me, the little things about Montreal, like this window display, is what makes us such a special and unique city. Even in the brutal cold, we manage to find incredible ways of getting people to enjoy the outdoors.

This work of Christmas art will be on display from now until January 5, 2020, which means locals and tourists have the chance to embark on this holiday-inspired journey.

There is also second mechanical window display inside the museum titled The Enchanted Forest, for those who are looking for an indoor activity to explore.

The Mill In The Forest

Where: 690 Rue Sherbrooke Ouest; McCord Museum

When: From now until January 5, 2020

Why: To get people of every generation into the Christmas spirit!
