As part of their annual United States tour, the Real Madrid Football Club practises in soccer cities in North America in an effort to grow the game. Despite the success of Major League Soccer (MLS), the league still has a long way to go to compete with the big boys such as the NFL and the NBA.
This year, they're bringing their star power and football prowess to Montreal, where they'll be staying for 10 days at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and practising at the Montreal Impact facilities! The team, along with their superstar coach, Zinedine Zidane, arrived in Montreal a few days ago.
Real Madrid is preparing for an extensive U.S. tour where they'll be playing three matches across the country. They'll be facing off against Bayern Munich in Houston, Texas, followed by Arsenal in Washington D.C., and Atlético Madrid in New Jersey, according to Diario AS.
According to Stu Cowan of The Montreal Gazette, Real Madrid will work out at the Montreal Impact's Centre Nutrilait practice facility from July 9th to July 19th to prepare for the International Champions Cup.
This marks Real Madrid's second time in Montreal to practise for their U.S. Tour. They were here in 2016 and arrived with much fanfare.
When they arrived at the Ritz-Carlton, much like 2016, there was a huge crowd awaiting them to catch a glimpse of the international soccer stars.
In a press release, Impact president and CEO Kevin Gilmore said that Montreal hosting Real Madrid for the second time is "a testament to our world-class training facilities and the status of Montreal as an international city of choice, and a global nod to a city becoming more entranced with soccer."
The Real Madrid Football Club has brought a squad of 29 players to Montreal in preparation for the International Champions Cup.
