Montreal never ceases to amaze me when it comes to unique activities being held and this weekend there is a one of a kind event that you will not want to miss. The annual WRG Winter Festival is a fun fundraiser that celebrates Canadian culture in true Montreal fashion, combining hockey and with European inspired 1920s fashion. This free community festival will take place between January 24 and January 26, 2020, at Parc Vinet.
All those who attend are encouraged to dress for the part in your best vintage get-up, even if you are not going to skate.
Montreal fashionistas, this is your chance to get out those rich, fabulous fabrics and stylish vintage pieces that have been sitting in the back of your closet.
The event will also include a smaller rink where children and novice skaters can practice their moves. And, for those who do not have skates, you will be able to rent a pair on-site.
While gliding on the ice, you will be able to move your body tothe sweet sounds of a live DJ. Singer-songwriter KALLITECHNIS, who appeared at both the Montreal Jazz Fest and Osheaga, will give a live performance at 9 p.m. on Friday.
After skating up an appetite, participants will be able to fill their tummies with some delicious treats. The event has partnered up with September Surf Café to create an exclusive menu that includes oysters and fluffy pancakes!
For those of you looking for a great date this weekend, on Saturday night the WRC Classic will allow you and that special someone to skate under the stars.
With players including Montreal influencers and community leaders, it's sure to be "the most dapper hockey tournament" in the city, says a press release.
Since 2014, the WRG Classic has grown and evolved. What started as a gentlemen's game of hockey turned into a winter festival that celebrates the charm of the season through our city's passion for hockey.
Its success has allowed organizers to give back to both the community and the sport.
In 2018 they established La Fondation WRG which, according to its website, aims to "create and host new opportunities for the next generation of Montrealers and Canadians, and instill the same passion for both the sport and the culture of hockey."
The organization supports off-ice youth programming, as well as the maintenance, quality, and accessibility of the outdoor hockey rinks in the Sud-Ouest borough.
Through the WRG Classic, participants can enjoy a fun-filled day with loved ones while giving back to the community.
So grab your best roaring 20s-inspired outfit and lace up those skates!
