These Montreal Boroughs Are The Worst-Served By The STM
The STM undeniably does a lot of things right: it was, for example, ranked the "greenest" transit system in North America last year.
Despite this, it has its faults, and the website "TryHarderSTM" is making sure to keep them accountable. The people behind the initiative analysed over 500M of data to determine which areas of Montreal were the most (and least) well-served by the transit system.
TL;DR A website has interesting information on which neighbourhoods are well-served by the STM, and which aren't. Rivères-des-Prairies-Pointes-aux-Trembles has been ranked as the least well-served neighbourhood, while Outremont has the most stops per person.
According to Reddit user ninedotnine, they "measured only population and average walking distance per arrondissement." Though they measured population density, they did not take into consideration the frequency of the transit methods.
On the website itself, they do not explain their methodology, and all of the numbers are relative to each other. The research behind this, although impressive, should therefore probably be taken with a grain of salt.
Nevertheless, it offers some interesting insights on transit in Montreal.
According to the graph, Rivères-des-Prairies-Pointes-aux-Trembles is most in need of more transit stops. Buses that serve this area include the 430 line and the 86, as well as the 48 and 449. Also in this list is the 81 line.
Also at the bottom of the list are L'Île-Bizard-Sainte-Geneviève, and Pierrefonds-Roxboro. It therefore appears that the extremities of the city are the least-served on the island.
Outremont, on the other hand, has the most stops per person. It is the best-served arrondissement in Montreal. Coming in right behind Outremont are Anjou and the Plateau Mont-Royal.
The complete list, from worst-served to best-served, goes like this:
Some commenters on Reddit agree with the information on the site, while others think that the findings are not in line with their experience. What neighborhood do you live in? Did you find that the list is accurate? Let me know!
