This Montreal Borough Was Just Ranked The 2nd Most Romantic Place In Canada And The Reason Why Is Pretty Sad

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, you might be looking for a mini-getaway for you and your significant other. With all the possibilities for a romantic weekend across the province, planning might be a bit harder than expected.

TL;DR Amazon Canada's official top 20 list of most romantic cities in the country ranked LaSalle, Quebec at second place. The rankings are based on purchases of romance products in cities with over 20,000 residents. More details and to view the full list of rankings read below.

Luckily, Amazon Canada's 2019 list of most romantic cities was just released, giving you all the information you need to hit the road with your loved one for the best Valentine's Day ever.

As if you couldn't already be happy enough with being blessed with this much-needed list, it turns out that a Montreal borough came in at second place! Meaning you probably don't even have to drive far to experience the (second) most romantic locale in Canada.

In case you couldn't already guess, LaSalle was among the favourites for lovebirds this year, though not for the reason you would think.

Even more impressive is that the Quebec City fell eight spots since 2018. Not only that, but LaSalle is the only city representing the province on the top 20 list.

The list was compiled using sales data from January 1, 2018 to January 1, 2019 on a per capita basis in cities that have more than 20,000 residents. The data looks at purchases of romance novels, romantic comedies, relationship books, jewellery, and "sexual wellness products" — which seems like a nice way of saying contraception and sex paraphernalia.

This ranking has little to do with any romantic quality inherent to the borough. Instead, it has to do with the buying habits of LaSalle residents, which is honestly kind of sad. Why do LaSalle residents feel the need to buy so many "romance products?"

Maybe it's worthy a day trip to find out.

With LaSalle only being a 20 minute drive from downtown Montreal, staying in one of the most "romantic" places in Canada has never been easier.

In case you were wondering what other cities made the top 20 list, here you go:

  • Victoria, British Columbia
  • LaSalle, Quebec
  • Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • North Vancouver, British Columbia
  • Spruce Grove, Alberta
  • Whitehorse, Yukon
  • Kelowna, British Columbia
  • Sherwood Park, Alberta
  • Courtenay, British Columbia
  • Bowmanville, Ontario
  • Grande Prairie, Alberta
  • Airdrie, Alberta
  • Waterloo, Ontario
  • Oakville, Ontario
  • Vancouver, British Columbia
  • Langley, British Columbia
  • Burlington, Ontario
  • North Bay, Ontario
  • Aurora, Ontario
  • Port Coquitlam, British Columbia

Hopefully this made your Valentine's Day planning just a little bit easier!
