I Got A Sneak Peek At Montreal's New Time Out Market & Here's My Honest Opinion (Photos)

So much yum under one roof.
Time Out Market Montreal Opens This Week & Here's My Honest Opinion
  • It's official - Time Out Market Montreal opens this week, and we got a sneak peek at all the deliciousness coming your way.
  • 16 restaurants, 3 bars, a teaching kitchen and more, this really is a foodie's one-stop-shop.
  • To see our sneak peek and to hear my honest opinion, take a look below.

Our very own Time Out Market Montreal officially opens to the public this week, on Thursday, November 14, 2019, and if you've been waiting for this opportunity to try some of Montreal's very best restaurants - now is your chance.

Even better, you get to try the creations of 16 of Montreal's most loved restaurateurs all under one roof, in what could only be described as a foodie's dreamscape.

The gourmet "food court" reminds me of the food courts that are often found in Asia, with popular local restaurants providing a place to sample their dishes alongside each other.

Time Out Market Montreal is also equipped with three bars, one of which is serving up ice cream, along with a teaching kitchen, a marketplace with locally-made goods, and a wonderfully open atmosphere. And, there are gender-neutral bathrooms!

I had the chance to go and try a bunch of the dishes that will soon be available, along with a couple cocktails, and here's what I thought.

For those who don't know, Time Out began as just a magazine that would share the best of many cities worldwide. They then decided to bring together these best-of-the-bests, creating markets in Lisbon, New York, Miami, Boston, and Prague, to name a few.

Montreal's location is right in the heart of the city, at the newly renovated (okay, currently under renovation) Eaton Centre on Sainte-Catherine.

The space is bright and big, with windows that look onto the Christ Church Cathedral. There's both high-top and regular seating available at long family-style tables that invite you to sneak a peek at your neighbour's plate.

And there's a lot to take in.

The options run the gamut, from classic comfort food like Portuguese chicken from Romados, to twists on family favourites, like the Bulgogi hot dog from Foodchain.

The Chorizo Tostada from Grumman '78 was a personal favourite.

There are also 11 cocktails available at the bar, all crafted by different bars around the city, and one made by Time Out, specifically for the Montreal market.

In addition to some classic comfort fare, there are also a handful of restaurants present that highlight the variety and diversity seen in the Montreal food scene.

Bahn Mi from The Red Tiger is served up with Pho soup for dipping and Marusan is bringing the warm and cozy with their Tonkotso Ramen.

And no meal would be complete without a serious dessert spread — and of course, Time Out Market Montreal delivers.

Seen above, from left to right, is the Babka, the Fruit Crumble, the Gluten-Free Brownie with Caramel, and the Vegan and Gluten-Free Chocolate Jello Truffle from Hof SuCrée.

On the icecream front, as mentioned above, Dalla Rosa is serving up classic gelato as well as a gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free ice cream sandwich made with coconut milk that is also stuffed with Quebec strawberry jam or salted caramel.

So, you're going to want to save room for dessert.

Each restaurant features an open concept kitchen, which allows guests to see their plates come to life before their eyes.

Prices are set by each restaurant and are listed on a board, much like a regular food court.

There's no question in my mind that this is a fantastic date spot, particularly if you and your significant other don't have the same taste.

Alternatively, Time Out Market Montreal also provides a fantastic way to have a huge family-style dinner with a large group. Then you can order multiple things from multiple restos and everyone gets to try as many new things as possible.

Another way to experience Time Out Market Montreal is to sign up for a workshop at their Teaching Kitchen.

This way you can learn something while also stuffing your face with the best gourmet fare Montreal has to offer.

My experience at Time Out Market Montreal was absolutely drool-worthy from start to finish and my only complaint is that I couldn't get a decaf coffee... But, I didn't have much space anyway.
