The time has come, Christmas is coming, which means everyone is looking for cool and winter-friendly activities. Well, the annual Alight at Night Festival at Upper Canada Village is everything you are looking for and more. There is something special about taking a trip during the holiday season — though not all of us can afford a lavish getaway. That is why this road trip is ideal for anyone looking to escape the city and explore somewhere new and exciting.

Upper Canada Village, which is less than a 2-hour drive from Montreal, is postcard perfect.

With close to one million lights and the charm of an 18th-century colonial settlement, this winter wonderland is a one of a kind backdrop that can put even the biggest Grinch in the holiday spirit.

But more than a picturesque setting, this romantic destination also has a slew of things to do for visitors, from horse-drawn wagons, carolers, and even a Victorian-style mansion on select evenings.

For the kids, or the kid living within you, there is a life-sized toy train and a vintage merry-go-round!

Alight the Night is "eastern Ontario's biggest outdoor light festival."

"Close to one million lights adorn the heritage buildings, trees, and fences of Upper Canada Village creating a one-of-a-kind magical backdrop for its annual Alight at Night Festival," the website explains.
