Video Shows Massive Fight With Police Sparked By Fireworks And Pepper Spray At Montreal's Jardins Gamelins

Late Thursday night, a party at the Place Émile-Gamelin, the location for the ephemereal Jardins Gamelin, took a turn for the worse.

A rowdy crowd shot allegedly shot off fireworks and sprayed pepper spray into the crowd at around 10 p.m. last night. Police were called to the scene, and were forced to evacuate the space.

According to CBC News, some people in the crowd started a fight with the police. Three people were arrested on various charges, including armed assault.

At about 10:00 p.m. last night, a person allegedly threw fireworks and sprayed pepper spray into a crowd that had gathered at Jardins Gamelin to dance to various DJs.

Most of the crowd quickly dispersed, according to reports. The crowd that stayed behind started fighting amongst themselves and with police officers who arrived to manage the scene.

Some news outlets allege that members of the crowd threw rocks at the police, while others say that they were throwing bottles. 

It took police almost two hours to control the situation.The Jardins Gamelin were finally evacuated at 11:30 p.m.

Three people were arrested on various charges, including armed assault.

Jardins Gamelin is an ephemereal pop-up space that hosts free events all summer. From free salsa classes to board game nights to pub quizzes, the space has events almost every night.

It has also seen its share of violence. Last August, a man was stabbed in the space.

Someone threw fireworks and pepper spray into the crowd at Jardins Gamelin last night. When police officers arrived, tensions escalated and led to a brawl between concert-goers and police.
