Protests are happening today, February 17, in Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto in support of the Wet'suwet'en people of British Columbia who are resisting the construction of the Coastal GasLink pipeline through their traditional lands. Online, thousands of videos are being posted about the protests along with the hashtags #ShutDownCanada and #WetsuwetenStrong. Montreal's protest is taking place at the intersection of ave. McGill College and rue Sherbrooke.

This specific protest was organized by the McGill groups SSMU Indigenous Affairs and the Indigenous Student Alliance, and given the title "Holding Space in Solidarity with Wet'suwet'en."

The event description reads "Indigenous knowledge holders, students, local organizers, and community members will be gathering in solidarity, culture, and community to support Wet'suwet'en. While this event is hosted by SSMU social media, this event is being held by Indigenous Youth for Wet'suwet'en and allies based out of Tioktià:ke."

The protesters are blocking any passage through the intersection by creating a human chain. Hundreds have shown up to join the movement, one which demands no Canadian pipeline to go through Indigenous land.

There is also an ongoing protest in Kahnawake blocking the Candiac exo commuter train line in support of the Wet'suwet'en.
