What's Open And What's Closed On Canada Day In Montreal

We get to enjoy the second long weekend in a row here in Montreal thanks to last week's St. Jean Baptiste festivities. This week, Canada Day is upon us and in Montreal, that means one thing — moving day.

Though, if you're not moving, Canada Day is a perfect day for a popsicle or for a relaxing day at the beach and at night, catch the incredible fireworks display at the Old Port

Though less restrictive than last weekend, Canada Day in Montreal still comes with a set of closures and delays that are important to know about. Check this out before you go out!

Government Offices

All government offices including the federal, provincial, and municipal branches across the city will be closed on Monday.

Garbage and Recycling Collection

Praise be to the city's garbage collectors because moving day is sure to be messy. Garbage, bulky waste, and recycling collection will continue as usual except in Lasalle and Outremont. Ecocentres will be closed, however.

Shopping

Expect all the shopping malls and some retail stores to be closed on Monday. Make sure to call ahead if you're planning on going shopping.

Supermarkets, as well as the Jean-Talon and Atwater Markets, will remain open.

Public Transit

The Société de transport de Montréal, the Société de transport de Laval, and the Réseau de transport de Longueuil will be running on altered schedules.

EXO train lines will run on weekend schedules. The Deux-Montagnes, Mascouche, and Candiac train lines will not be running on Monday.

Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ)

Good news for those hosting a Canada Day barbeque, the SAQ will be open on Monday. Most independent retail outlets will be open but if you live near an SAQ that's in a mall, you'll be out of luck.

Banks

All major banks will be closed on Canada Day.

Parking

Parking restrictions will remain as usual on Monday.

Entertainment

The Botanical Garden and the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium will be open all day. The Montreal Jazz Fest will also be in full swing. Most museums will be open as well.

Borough community centres will remain open at their discretion. Call ahead to find out.

Happy Canada Day, Montreal!
