William Shatner's Tweets As A Quarantined Captain Kirk Will Help You Live Long & Prosper
  • Trapped in self-isolation, Montreal native William Shatner is reprising his role as Captain Kirk to share updates on the situation.
  • In Kirk's world, the mundane features of Shatner's Los Angeles home become extravagantly alien.
  • Shatner also shared his dubious invention, the ShatMask.

One Montrealer is taking the coronavirus crisis out of this world. Former on-screen captain of the starship Enterprise, William Shatner, is using social media to bring some light to this dark situation, reprising the character of James Kirk to share a Starfleet perspective on his own self-isolation in Los Angeles. The McGill grad is live-tweeting Kirk's logs, daily journal entries that served as soliloquies on the original series.

Many of the logs recount the officer's encounters with Espresso and Macchiato — Shatner's dogs who, in Kirk's world, have become alien dignitaries.

"Captain’s Log: Stardate 1 of self imposed isolation. After having arrived at Planet Home, I was warmly greeted by Emissaries Espresso & Macchiato. I look forward to my planned respite from my normal duties. Kirk out."

The diplomatic mission to Home became even more extravagant on the second day of his mission.

"Captain’s Log: Stardate 2 of self imposed isolation. Emissaries Macchiato & Espresso have been exploring a new territory called Underbed bestowing upon me tributes of missing socks and other items in an attempt to get my attention & adoration."

Things took a turn for the worse on the third and fourth days of the visit, however.

Like everyone in quarantine, the actor has had to find ways to keep himself entertained by transforming the mundane into the extraordinary — and he's taking his followers along for the (space ship) ride.

Kirk's logs aren't Shatner's only creation during quarantine.

He also invented the dubious "ShatMask."

"Wouldn’t Y front underwear with cotton and gauze stuffed in the pocket be good DIY makeshift mask in a pinch?" he captioned a photo of the ShatMask on Instagram.

"The opening for the legs allow you to see out."

Shatner joins a growing list of Montrealers who are finding ways to have some fun with the COVID-19 crisis.

Stay tuned for more quarantine fun.
