Cannoli are the decadent Italian dessert that everyone knows — rolls of fried dough stuffed with heavy cream. Between the 19th and 20th centuries, waves of Italian immigrants brought the famous pastry to Montreal, where it has since become a staple of the confectionary landscape.
In celebration of this heritage, a new Montreal enterprise aims to bring cannoli to a wider audience. Madame Cannoli will be the city's first-ever cannoli bar, featuring over 300 possible flavour combinations for patrons to enjoy.
The patisserie and café is set to open on Saturday July 6th.
"At Madame Cannoli, we specialize in cannoli; a golden brown crunchy pastry shell filled with creamy ricotta or cheesecake fillings. We only use the best & locally sourced ingredients to create our authentic taste,"the café website reads.
"We always pipe, top and drizzle our cannoli to order. This way we can guarantee the freshest product to our valued guests to enjoy in our bakery or at home."
"We PROUDLY make our own cannoli shells and fillings. We bring a different experience to the average cannoli — with 14 choices of ricotta & cheesecake fillings, 21 toppings and 21 belgian chocolate drizzles, you are able to create that one-of-a-kind cannoli you have been looking for," the restaurant Facebook page further expains.
Possible cannoli fillings include Caramel Pecan Cheesecake, Lemon, Nutella, and Traditional. Garnish them with Kit Kats, almonds, or pistachio, and Maple, Coffee Crisp, or Salted Caramel drizzle, among dozens of other flavours.
Other unique products at Madame Cannoli include Cannoli Chips & Dip, a tray of frish dough and creamy sauce, and Cannoli Cookies. Gelato, milkshakes, and donuts complate the dessert menu.
