Though Montreal is full of cafés where you can spend a chill day working on whatever you're working on, nothing beats a co-working space. If you've ever been to one, you know that they offer all the comforts of a café without the random disturbances.

It's rare in Montreal that you'll stumble upon a free co-working space that is equal parts functional and dope AF. Somehow though, that perfect marriage of workflow and cool vibes exist at Montreal's newest outdoor co-working space: Nouvelle Vague!

Conceived by Îlot 84, the non-profit organization that also created Aire Commune and Green Haüs, Nouvelle Vague is an incredible addition to the Old Port of Montreal. As Canada's first and only outdoor co-working and events venue, Nouvelle Vague is an experience like no other!

I spoke with Marie-Pier Tessier De L'Étoile, one of the five co-founders of Nouvelle Vague after spending a day taking advantage of their incredible facilities. As someone who relies on co-working spaces and cafés to get the job done, I can say that Nouvelle Vague was unlike anything I've ever experienced.

The vast space occupies a once forgotten portion of the pier. If you walk all the way past and behind the Science Centre, you'll stumble upon one of the most well-thought-out co-working spaces in the city.

According to De L'Étoile, Nouvelle Vague provides a unique experience that the business community in Montreal was sorely lacking. In order for professionals and freelancers alike to meet and connect, Nouvelle Vague aims to "get people out of the office, work outside, and get together in a casual setting."

What makes Nouvelle Vague so special isn't only the location and environment. Unlike other co-working spaces in the city, you'll have access to food trucks, a full bar, and occasionally a professional DJ!

You can rent a private booth in a converted shipping container totally free for three hours at a time or enjoy the many picnic tables around the space. The wi-fi is powerful and the outlets are many!

One of the real draws of Nouvelle Vague are their weekly 5 à 7 events. Every weekend all summer long, there will be two to four special professional or cultural events such as conferences and dance parties. You can even catch the fireworks every Wednesday!

It's honestly perfect because once you've finished a hard day's work, you can stick around, crack open a beer, and enjoy the festivities! Bring sunscreen, tan gods.

So instead of going to the same boring old third-wave coffee shop with the $5 espresso, why not soak up the sun at Nouvelle Vague? Believe me, your workflow will thank you.

Nouvelle Vague is located at 2 rue de la Commune Ouest, all the way at the end of King Edward's quay (where the Science Centre is).

Experience la Vague today, tomorrow, every day! Happy working, Montreal.
