Montreal's 2018 "Fantasia International Film Festival" Schedule Is Out

It seems like festival season never ends in Montreal summer. The city calendar is crowded with event after event as residents and planners scramble to take advantage of the ephemeral warm weather. There is always something to do in this famously festival-oriented and leisurely city.

Montreal festivals are certainly distinct. The world-renowned Mural and Jazz festivals draw thousands if not tens of thousands of visitors each year. But other niche celebrations also contribute to the city's ecclectic cultural landscape.

The Fantasia International Film Festival has grown from a small series of screenings to a world-class attraction where dozens of new films make their debut. With an original focus on anime, the festival now includes films ranging in scope from action to cartoon fantasy.

The event is probably best known, however, for its annual array of stunning horror films. Let's be honest, horror is the genre that best describes our cultural moment. I'm no expert, but it seems to me that the genre has blossomed in the last few years as artists must compete with the often surreal developments that have defined contemporary politics.

The just-released Fantasia 2018 lineup includes a collection of titles both mysterious and beautiful and even movies featuring actors from Montreal!

The list is sure to intrigue both the horror enthusiast and the casual thrill-seeker. Above all, the lineup is a true celebration of innovative artists and their gorgeous work.

Tickets for a single film are as little as $11, while ten ticket booklets are $100. July is already breaking heat-records, so a day spent moving from one riveting feature to the next sounds like an ideal cultural experience.
