Montreal's All-New Metro Cars Will Use Wooden Brakes

Old school meets new school.

Wooden brakes will be exclusively used on Montreal's new metro cars, and it's a good thing. Really.

In fact, wooden brakes have always been used in Montreal's metro system, preferred over graphite or steel for being quieter and more eco-friendly, and the STM isn't changing their methods for the new AZUR cars.

The metro's wooden brakes are constructed right here in Montreal, in a very Keebler Elf-style workshop. See how they're made and meet the team who constructs the STM's brakes in the video below.
