Montreal's mayor Denis Coderre has just dropped some major news during a press conference held this morning: a large section of the Bonaventure Expressway will be transformed into an "urban boulevard" outfitted with a variety of new features, reports CBC.

On the scene reporter Emily Brass has tweeted out a few concept images and details on the new urban boulevard, which is to be named Boulevard Robert Bourassa. The revamped road will host green spaces, have 9 ground level lanes, pedestrian corridors, and will connect to new bike paths.

Construction is slated to start in 2015, with Coderre stressing the expressway will be stay open while work is being done. Traffic will likely increase as a consequence, though the mayor stressed the disruption of traffic flow will be minimized.

The mayor ended saying the project will be completed for Montreal's 375th birthday in 2017. Yet another new addition to Montreal we can look forward to in 2017.
