Montreal's First-Ever Recreational Marijuana Store Is Opening Near Jean-Talon Market

News about the emerging cannabis industry in Canada moves fast. Just yesterday officials in Nova Scotia unveiled the first recreational marijuana store in Canada.

Then the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) announced the neighbourhoods in Montreal that will host the city's first four branches of the government-run dispensary.

Today, the SQDC confirmed the exact location of the first store in Rosemont. Starting October 17th, Montreal residents will be able to purchase marijuana at 6872 rue Saint-Hubert!

The location is situated among the Plaza St-Hubert, the sprawling and popular low-cost shopping destination. What's more, the store will be just blocks from the Jean-Talon market, the largest public market in the city.

The density of retailers already makes that area of Rosemont a popular spot for Montrealers. The addition of a recreational marijuana dispensary will only multiply the number of daily visitors to the commercial centre.

But with only four SQDC outlets opening in Montreal (in Rosemont, the south west, downtown, and East End), the latest store will likely be unable to meet demand, especially with the limited parking in that section of Rosemont.

As the only store for at least five kilometres, it will serve not only Rosemont, but also the Plateau, Mile End, and Outremont.

Whether and where the SQDC plans to open more stores in Montreal is thus far undisclosed. But the latest location will certainly be convenient for Montreal shoppers who travel by public transit.

Stay tuned.
