Montreal's Lachine Canal To Be Transformed Into An "Enchanted Snow Path"

A new pilot project has been launched in Montreal to further develop our city's identity. As mayor Denis Coderre puts it: Montreal is a Nordic city, an active city, an Olympic city and Montrealers maintain a passion for winter sports.

That is why a new snow path has been built along Lachine Canal where Montrealers will be able to grab their cross-country skis or their snowshoes and enjoy a scenic hike.

This is only the first step according to Mayor Coderre and he's confident that if this project is successful the city will be able to develop several other winter activities in time for Montreal's 375th anniversary including a new ice skating rink on the canal.

The first path is 6 kilometres long and runs beteen the Gauron and Lafleur bridges and the Gadbois recreation complex. The second path is 14 kilometres long and reaches all the way to the Atwater market.

A third path is also being built and will hopefully completed by next week. The 18 kilometer path starts at Arthur Therien Park and ends in Summerlea Park in Lachine. This path will also include a loops in Rene Levesque Park as well as several rest areas along the way.

For more information on the path check out The City Of Montreal's Website. (French only)
