Montreal’s Lachine Canal Will Be Transformed Into An “Enchanted Snow Path” Winter 2017

Last week, we pitched the idea for a project that should happen in Montreal.

The idea was to transform Mount Royal's paths into an enchanted Forrest much like the one at Foresta Lumina.

But just in case this project never happens, there is another enchanted path that will likely see the light of day this winter.

It was one of the first announced projects for Montreal's 375th anniversary and its goal is to help develop Montreal's identity as a Nordic city, an active city and an Olympic city.

Last year, the first path was 6 kilometers long and ran between the Gauron and Lafleur bridges and the Gadbois recreation complex. The second path was 14 kilometers long and reached all the way to the Atwater market.

There was 3rd path in the works as well.

An 18 kilometer long stretch meant for cross country skiing. It started at Arthur Therien Park and ended in Summerlea Park in Lachine.

This year, the path is also set to include a brand new ice skating rink and various rest stops and activities along the way.

This would all be part of the Place du Marché project which includes the “Chalet du Lachine Canal”. This Chalet will act as a hub of winter fun, allowing everyone to ski, play, and skate right on the canal.
