Montreal's Massive Oreo Cookie Plant Is Shutting Down Forever

Old Dutch Foods, Electrolux, Mabe and Energizer Holdings, just a few names of factories that have shut their Montreal-based factory doors over the past years. It looks like the manufacturing sector in Montreal is once again, taking a hit.
Overnight, our childhood favorite - Oreo, announced that they too have shut down their factory doors, resulting in over 450 jobless industrial workers.
I bet you didn't even know Montreal had an Oreo factory, but snack-maker Mondalez International has called the East end home since 1956 and produced more than 1 billion of those iconic black and white cookies each year.
Since 1990 Montreal has seen a steep decline in industrial jobs. And with companies like Mondalez International moving out, the trend seems to continue.
