Montreal's New Champlain Bridge Is A Total Disaster

Trying to cross the Champlain Bridge might be riskier than previously believed.

Workers involved in the construction of the $4.2 billion structure have already made 2000 repairs on its supports.

This sorry state of affairs has been attributed to faulty material.

In particular, the bridge has faulty support beams. These have been supplied by a firm called Tecade, which is based in Spain.

Other problems include missing welds, misaligned holes on steel parts and cracked or porous metal plates.

The number of repairs required could jeopardize the deadline for the project's completion, of December 2018.
