Montreal’s Old Port Will Be Hosting A “River Party” This Summer

Le Grand Splash is back for 2015.

Montreal is an island, a fact that's easy to forget considering there's barely anywhere to swim in this city. Over the last 12 years, the Comité Citoyen Montréal Baignade has been pressuring the city of Montreal to create more places where citizens could enjoy the water that surrounds us, and it seems to be paying off.

This year marks the 12th edition of the Big Splash event where hundreds of Montrealers will gather in the Old Port to take a dive in the Saint-Lawrence River. The event aims to raise awareness of this lack of public water access in a campaign to "take back the river".

Last year 200 people participated in the Big Splash and even more are expected to attend this year.
