Keep your fingers crossed that the hot summer sun stays out, because if it does, this Tuesday will be a giant pool party in the St. Lawrence River. Okay, so technically a "river party," this aquatic blowout, known as le Grand Splash 2014, is your chance to take a dip in the St. Lawrence along with all of Montreal.

To those skeptical, the St. Lawrence River is actually entirely safe to swim in, and that's the idea behind le Grand Splash. Organized by, le Comité citoyen Montréal Baignade, the group wants to dispel the popular perception of the St. Lawrence and prompt Montrealers to "reclaim the river."

Le Grand Splash will be held at the Quai Jacques-Cartier in the Old Port, set to start early in the morn at 7:30am, with everyone jumping in at 8am. Life jackets will be on-site, but folks are asked to bring their own, to ensure there's enough for everyone.

Summer sun and heat are essential to this event, and the date is subject to change if the weather turns cold. An email will be sent out the day before le Grand Splash, so be sure to sign up to the mailing list here to stay in the loop.

To get all the info, head over to the official event listing here. See you by the river.
