2017 in Montreal is getting a lot of hype as plans for Montreal's 375th anniversary start to become formalized. Some pretty major stuff is in the works for the biggest birthday party Montreal has ever seen, which will be on par with Expo 67, reports CTV. We weren't at the infamous Expo, but the newly announced giant ice rink planned for 2017 gives some credence to the comparison.

Coming straight from the mouth of mayor Denis Coderre is the newly announced plan to install a gigantic outdoor ice skating rink in Quartier des Spectacles. A part of the to-be-constructed "Esplanade Clark" which will function as a kind of "village square," the public skating rink will turn into a huge terrasse during the warmer months of summer. Best idea ever? Yes, yes it is.

Funding for the amazing features of the planned Espalande Clark, and other 375th b-day projects, will be provided by both the Quebec and federal government, who have already given $120 million to get things started.

Heading Montreal's big birthday preparations is Gilbert Rozon, the founder of the Just For Laughs festival. Together with France Chretien Desmarais, who is the President of the Board for Montreal's 375th anniversary, Rozon is asking the public for more 2017 project ideas. The only criteria for potential projects is that the idea must be creative, engaging, and will have a lasting impact on the city. You can get more details and submit your own here, with the deadline set for De. 19th at 5pm.

Submit your own project proposal for Montreal's 375th anniversary celebrations right here.
