Montreal's Saint-Laurent Street To Be Lit Up With 2.5KM Of Christmas Lights This December

The Main is getting festive this year, as the spirit of Christmas will be seen on St. Laurent in a bright new way. Officially approved by Montreal's mayor Denis Coderre at the end of yesterday's Je vois mtl event, St. Laurent boulevard will be covered by Christmas garland-lights by mid-December, reports La Presse.

A seasonal project originally proposed by la Société de développement commercial (SDC) of St. Laurent, Christmas lights on the Main were actually rejected by the City of Montreal last week due to time constraints. Call it a temporal-Christmas miracle or magic elves just got on board to install the lights, but CEO of the SDC told La Presse that the project is now totally do-able in time for the holiday season.

In total, 2.5 km of illuminating garland (comprised of 4000 lights) will be strung up and down St. Laurent boulevard between Sherbrooke and Mont-Royal. Installation will take a full 24 hours according to La Presse, which should be shining bright like Xmas diamonds by the second week of December.

While the borough of Plateau-Mont-Royal has yet to officially approve of the Xmas initiative, organizers are confident the project will move forward, because come on, you have to be quite the scrooge to deny festive lights on the Main, which will no doubt make drunken walks down the street on Friday nights so much more magical.
