Montreal's Saint-Paul Street In The Old Port Cobblestone Road Ruined By City Workers

For shame, Montreal, for shame. The iconic cobblestone streets of Montreal, which literally served as a pathway into the city's past, have been marred by modernity. Not with glistening steel or bright chrome, but with crude black asphalt.
Montrealer Mathieu Cousineau D tweeted out an image of this affront to Montreal's cultural heritage, portraying recent construction "improvements" made on St. Paul street, which was then re-tweeted by Francois Cardinal of La Presse. The Montreal twitter-verse has been in an understandable uproar ever since. See the picture below.

Who could approve of this construction plan, where gross black concrete literally runs down the middle of Old Port's cobblestone streets, destroying the old school aesthetic? Seems like a cheap quick-fix to repair the street, a way in which to make the roads "better" at the lowest cost, while effectively destroying the charm of the Old Port.
Lets pray this is a very temporary solution, and real cobblestones, or a material less garish, will be installed instead.
