Montreal's Sainte-Catherine Street Is Closing Off To Host The Biggest Summer Street Fair In Canada

Montreal residents know how to take advantage of the fleeting months of warm weather each summer. It's only a matter of time before the city's infamously brutal cold starts to creep back through the streets.

That's why the Montreal summer schedule is packed with festivals small and large, including the most extensive street fair in the entire country.

What event planners call "the biggest open-sky gathering of merchants in Canada" returns this weekend! La Sainte-Catherine célèbre takes over the city's busiest commercial destination from July 13th (tonight!) to Sunday the 15th.

The street will be closed to automobile traffic between Rue Guy and Rue de Bleury to make way for over three hundred participating merchants, eateries, and activity stations.

Public attractions and performances like stilt-walkers, giant board games, and live music will also line the long stretch of street. You can check out a full list of events and activities for the three days here.

Unfortunately, the fair will also coincide with the next heat wave to hit Montreal. There's no news yet whether the high temperatures will affect the program schedule. But after over seventy deaths reported from the heat wave just last week, you can bet officials will be taking precautions.

Have fun out there and stay safe!
