Montreal's Vendôme Metro Station To Get A Major Makeover Starting In October 2014

If you experience a daily traffic jam of people inside the Vendôme métro station, whether it be on the stairs or just trying to get past the turnstiles, you can alleviate your rage knowing that construction will begin fix the problem, reports CJAD.

Improvements to Vendôme will begin next month. Construction will focus on doubling the space of the station's stairwells and improving the existing turnstile setup, which will cost about $3.46 million, covered entirely by Transport Quebec.

The increased stair space and entrance system is being made in anticipation of the increased commuter population at Vendôme from the MUHC superhospital set to open in spring 2015.

An entrance allowing those in wheelchairs and other disabled commuters will also be built, a project "still in its planning stage." How this isn't a priority for a metro station planned to have increased traffic due to hospital patients is beyond us, especially given the already very limited amount of wheelchair accessible stations in the STM network.

Anyone taking the 102 should also note that the bus stop will be moved a bit due to the construction work, but only by a few metres.

All construction is set to be finished by June 2015.
