Mos Def Films Himself Being Force-Fed To Protest Guantánamo Prisoners Being Force-Fed During Ramadan

Ramadan starts tonight, and over 40 prisoners will be force fed by guards at the Guantánamo Bay facility, not only because fasting is one part of celebrating and worshiping the holy month, but because, according to the Guardian Newspaper, “the hunger strike was launched in February, as a protest against the legal limbo in which many of the 166 detainees at Guantánamo find themselves and against President Obama’s failure to honor his 2008 promise to close the camp.”

Rapper / singer song writer / actor Yasiin Bey, a.k.a. Mos Def, teamed up with Human Rights organization Reprieve, went and filmed what it is like to be put through and undergo the procedure, “through tubes directly into the stomachs of detainees.”
